Bouncing with the Bailout

By Arthur B. Hill - Fri 26-Sep-08 9:43 AM EDT

Market moves over the last few days have been purely driven by the bailout package. Anticipation of the package enticed buyers last Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Buyers held back during the testimony and negotiation phase as the market declined Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. News of a congressional consensus pushed the market higher early Thursday, but the market got cold feet ahead of the White House meeting. Friday is going to be full of uncertainty and a deal is unlikely by the time the market closes. However, there are a lot of politics involved now and anything could happen. Monday morning should be especially interesting.
