Investing in Agriculture

By Arthur B. Hill - Thu 21-Feb-08 11:10 AM EST

The Agriculture PowerShares ETF (DBA) has been one of the top performers over the last six months with a run from 26 to 40. This ETF represents a basket of agriculture products including corn, wheat, soybeans and sugar. From the looks of the DBA chart, demand for foodstuffs is strong.

There is another ETF designed for the agriculture business. The MarketVector Agribusiness ETF (MOO) contains 37 stocks involved in agricultural related business. Many of theses are U.S. stocks, but a fair number come from outside the U.S. to offer some international exposure. The chart shows MOO since inception (September) and the table details the holdings.
